How to connect Clover to a WooCommerce store

Published October 22, 2026

Clover's official WooCommerce plugin takes card payments through your Clover merchant account, and it doesn't sync products or stock. To keep your Clover register and your website selling from the same counts, you add a connector app that links each Clover item to its web product and moves the numbers between them.

We've built websites and stores since 2008, and we've connected Clover to WooCommerce for clients. This page covers the three pieces Clover offers or works with, which one does what, and what to check in your Clover catalog before you connect anything.

Does Clover integrate with WooCommerce?

Yes, for payments. Clover publishes Clover Payments for WooCommerce on WordPress.org, and the plugin is free for merchants to use. Transactions are charged under your Clover account. It handles authorize, capture, refunds, voids and Apple Pay, and card details are collected in iframes and tokenized with Clover, so card data doesn't touch your site. You don't need a Clover device to use it, only a Clover account (wordpress.org/plugins/clover-payments-for-woocommerce, as of October 2026).

The plugin's listing doesn't describe any product or inventory sync. If you sell the same items in a shop and online, that's a separate piece.

What is Clover Online Ordering, and is it the same thing?

No. Clover Online Ordering is Clover's own ordering page, and Clover says it's "currently available to restaurants and food service businesses only." You sign up in the Online Ordering Hub in your Clover dashboard, and Clover lists no set-up or subscription fees beyond the card-not-present fee on online orders (blog.clover.com, as of October 2026).

That's why so many people search "clover online ordering" and land on something built for a café. A retail shop with a WooCommerce store keeps its own website and connects Clover to it.

How does Clover inventory sync with WooCommerce?

Through a connector app that sits between the two. SKU IQ is one: it lists both Clover and WooCommerce as supported platforms and says it "syncs quantities and product catalog attributes such as title, description, brand, etc." Products are linked by title, SKU or UPC, or pushed from one platform to the other. As of October 2026 its plans run $19, $49 and $99 a month, with a free trial of up to 14 days, and image sync, auto-pushing new items and order sync are add-ons on some plans (skuiq.com/pricing).

For a gift shop client, we moved the online store's products into WooCommerce, matched each Clover item to its web product by SKU, and connected a sync app so the shop and the website draw from the same stock. We recorded a training video for the team that walks through shipping, payments and the Clover-linked inventory, so they can run it day to day.

Which way does stock move between Clover and WooCommerce?

That depends on the connector and how you set it up, so decide it before you link anything. The two common setups:

  1. Clover is the source of truth. Counts are kept at the register, and the website reads them. This fits a shop where most sales happen in person.
  2. Both sides write. A sale on either side lowers the count on the other. This needs every item linked correctly, because a missed link means one side never hears about the sale.

Pick one place where new products get created, too. If staff add items in Clover and someone else adds them on the website, you end up with two records for the same mug.

What should you check in your Clover catalog first?

  • Matching names or SKUs. The connector links items by title, SKU or UPC. If the register calls it "Mug - Blue" and the website calls it "Blue Coffee Mug," and neither has a shared SKU, the item can't link on its own. We matched items one by one before turning sync on.
  • Real barcodes. A UPC on every item you sell in both places makes linking reliable. Leaving Lightspeed covers printing your own UPC labels.
  • Items that only exist in the shop. In-store items with no photo, price or description online need those before they go live on the website.
  • Which items belong online. Your register will carry things you don't ship, and those stay unlinked.
  • The connector's plan. Sync apps are subscriptions, so keep the plan active and know who owns the login.
  • Payments set up on both sides. If you also take web payments through Clover, connect the Clover Payments plugin with your Clover account and run a real test order.

Questions

Does Clover have an official WooCommerce plugin?
Yes. Clover Payments for WooCommerce is published by Clover on WordPress.org and is free to use. It processes card payments through your Clover account and doesn't sync products or inventory (as of October 2026).
Can Clover Online Ordering work with my WooCommerce site?
Clover Online Ordering is Clover's own ordering page, and Clover says it's available to restaurants and food service businesses only. A retail store on WooCommerce connects Clover through a payments plugin and a sync app instead.
How do I sync Clover inventory with WooCommerce?
Use a connector app such as SKU IQ, which lists Clover and WooCommerce as supported platforms and links products by title, SKU or UPC. Its plans start at $19 a month as of October 2026.
Do I need a Clover device to take payments on my website?
No. Clover's plugin listing says all you need is a Clover account.
Why won't some of my Clover items link to the website?
The names, SKUs or barcodes don't match between the two. Give each item the same SKU or UPC on both sides, or link it by hand, before turning sync on.
