How to build a website with AI.
AI can draft the words, the page structure and the layout of a website in an afternoon. What it can't do is know your business. The sites that work start with what you know - what you sell, who it's for, and what people need to hear before they contact you - and use AI to build from that. We've built websites since 2008, and this is the order we work in.
The steps
- Know what you sell and who it's for. Write down the offer, the people it's for, and the questions they ask before they buy. This is the raw material for every page.
- Write the brief before you build. Answer the business questions first, then choose your voice, colors and type. If you have a logo, colors and wording already, bring them in.
- Pick your tools. You need an AI assistant (Claude or ChatGPT) and an AI website builder such as Lovable. Each has its own account, and building usually needs a paid plan.
- Build the pages from the brief. Give the builder your brief, not a blank prompt. AI drafts the words and layout, and you choose what fits your business.
- Review every word before you publish. Check that the words are accurate, the direction fits, and the site does the job it's for.
- Publish, and keep the brief. Your brief, voice, colors and type are what you'll reuse for every page and post after this one.
